Sean was so happy to announce these two books went “Gold” – a video game design term that means the master copy of a game is finished and has been sent to the printers to be mass produced. In this case, Rifts® Titan Robotics™ and Cyberworks™ are off to the printer and we’re all excited about that. The Rifts® Titan Robotics™ Poker Deck has been sent off as well.

We did have a what the @&%$ moment. We were so focused on the books themselves we forgot to include the digital files of the end sheets for the hardcover books, prompting our printing rep to reach out with an inquiry. No problem, Wayne sent them out the same day. It was just kinda funny.

UPDATE: Rifts® Titan Robotics™ Poker Deck – The final proof has been approved. The colors and textured card stock are deep and rich, and they feel great to flip and shuffle. Very nice.

UPDATE: Rifts® Bestiary Volume Two: Now that Titan Robotics™ is at the printer, Sean’s primary focus is bringing Rifts® Bestiary 2 across the finish line. Like volume one, it will include monsters collected from other Rifts® books, with expanded and updated descriptions, many with new artwork, as well as new critters by me (Kevin) and Sean. V2 will be a dynamic and satisfying companion to Rifts® Bestiary Volume One.

UPDATE: Yin-Sloth Jungles™ Expanded and Updated to 2nd Edition Rules: I am so pumped up about this book. I (Kevin) have added so much expanded material on top of what John Klinkel had added, that adventuring into the Yin-Sloth Jungles will feel like a whole new experience. In many ways this is a brand new book on par with what I did with Rifts® Vampire Kingdoms. The Tezcat, Beastmaster, Holy Crusader, Pygmy Shaman, Spy, Undead Hunter, Witch Hunter, and all the O.C.C.s are completely new and epic. There are other fun surprises that will expand your gaming experience, and new characters and elements as well as new maps by Phil Stone and a detailed one by Will Erwin (if we can squeeze it in). Doing such a sprawling expansion was not my original intent, but it is so worth it. I’m trying to wrap it up this week. May release.

COMING Back in Print Soon: Rifts® Africa and Dragons & Gods (Fantasy). We try not to let books go out of print for long. Both of these titles are fan favorites so we are glad to have sent them in for reprints along with 6 other low stock titles. They should be available by mid-May.

UPDATE: Rifts® Antarctica. Though it’s a book or two down the pipeline, Sean and I have been working with Mike Majestic on a bunch of new illustrations for some very cool stuff in Rifts® Antarctica. The kind of stuff that will make your characters want to journey to this frozen wasteland. The artwork has me chomping at the bit to get back to this book and finish it as soon as possible. It is new material that did not appear in the Raw Preview and it is the kind of things that give the Splugorth and their minions nightmares. As Sean reported in the last update, when I told two visitors about the expanded material they drooled and one said, “Now I have to absolutely buy that book, too.” And so will you. Ha, ha, ha …

Savage Rifts® Conversion PDFs reminder from Sean Owen Roberson – We’ve had some of you reaching out to us to ask if pre-orders are eligible to receive the Savage Rifts conversion PDFs for Titan Robotics™ and the Cyberworks™ Collection. Many are Savage Worlds fans who have had their interest piqued by Rifts® for Savage Worlds and are unfamiliar with Palladium’s general way of doing things. First off, welcome! Second, I’d like to make a few points to help clarify everyone’s expectations:

There are technically two Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) conversion documents. The first is the Titan Robotics™ SWADE conversion. The second is the Cyberworks™ Collection SWADE conversion, which was a stretch goal that Kevin and I decided to grant to all backers as an early Christmas present. For brevity, I call the docs “Savage Titan Robotics” and “Savage Cyberworks” but be advised that these are purely rules conversions, they won’t mean much without the context of Palladium’s Titan Robotics™ or Cyberworks™ Collection sourcebooks.
Palladium Books, unlike Pinnacle Entertainment Group (the makers of the Savage Worlds RPG), does NOT release PDFs for public sale immediately upon the release of print books. Without getting technical about business strategies, etc., please just respect that our two companies have very different market approaches.
This means that crowdfunding campaigns and pre-orders that include PDFs are often a unique chance to purchase PDFs at a discounted pledge or pre-order bundle price.
On the flip side, Palladium prints locally here in the USA, often at a printer just a short drive down the road from our offices in Michigan. This means that our physical products ship out in weeks, not months, which is worth considering when purchasing physical books – especially in regard to pre-orders and crowdfunding campaigns.
The Titan Robotics™ campaign is the first time that Palladium has Kickstarted a book. We are still learning as we go and are doing our best to accommodate a wide range of customer needs.

So, to get back to the core topic, both Savage Rifts® conversion documents are strictly Kickstarter rewards, HOWEVER the Mechanoids® (and therefore the Cyberworks™) content is especially so due to our current licensing agreement with Pinnacle Entertainment. I was super duper clear about this during the Kickstarter and all of the related interviews, but it seems new fans still got confused and were under the impression that these items would be put up for sale as PDFs as soon as they are finished. This is definitely not the case. That said, we’re bummed if any well-meaning fans get left out of the fun due to what seems to have been a fairly common misconception.

Kevin, Wayne, and I had a good chat and decided to go with an option requested by multiple Palladium fans many months ago — we are offering the following general release books bundled with the PDF, plus the associated Savage Rifts® conversion PDFs. However, many of these items sell within a few days after they get posted, so keep your eyes peeled. Palladium collectibles and negatives continue to be added at least once a week.

Palladium Collectibles – at Kevin’s Online Toy & Collectibles eBay Store

I am adding new collectibles and Palladium negatives over the next several weeks, so check ‘em out. Alex and I will try to post new items on a regular basis, so check in every week or so to see what’s new.

One-of-a-kind Palladium Books negatives (special and rare collectibles). Negatives are always very popular items at the Palladium Open House, Gen Con, and conventions, and are catching on as rare collectibles, unique in and of themselves. Before digital printing, pages of a book were laid out by hand on a board, and each page was photographed. The plastic film negatives were then “ganged” on a massive sheet of Mylar, 16 pages per big sheet, and the printing plates were made from the negatives – everything white, printing black. We have been cutting them loose and making them available to you. I am only keeping a few dozen pages of negatives and a few complete books for myself, the rest are all being slowly offered to you, in no particular order.

Each is truly unique, attractive, and fun to have.

Each signed in silver ink by Kevin Siembieda, the founder and owner of Palladium Books. He is also the game designer and often the author or co-author of the book from which the negative originates. And some negatives bear his artwork.

Each signed negative is a one-of-a-kind work of art (on rare occasions, two-of-a-kind if a page or section of pages were replaced or a second edition was made) that resembles woodcut art, and a very dynamic conversation piece.

Negatives looks fabulous matted or framed! Fits in an 8×10 inch matt opening. Each neg is roughly 8½ x 11 inches.
Prices vary depending on the title, the art, and quality of the negative. Note: Many have scratches, or blemishes, and/or an opaque medium on the negative. Still, they look great and are a piece of RPG history. We recommend you carefully examine the photographs of each item to avoid disappointment.
We have been making the negatives available, in no particular order, for a number of years, and will continue to do so. However, cutting them loose, signing and bagging is a time consuming process.
Note: The negatives from the TMNT RPG, TMNT Adventures, and some Rifts® titles are already sold out. Moreover, the negatives from many titles were destroyed, so when you see one you like, get it when you can. Enjoy.

Original art – My Ebay store is one of the few places where you can find original artwork by me (Kevin Siembieda), Kevin Long, Charles Walton, and others, as well as one-of-a-kind negatives from classic Palladium books (they look awesome framed), and other Palladium memorabilia. Closing Thoughts – Warm weather and warm thoughts

I’m looking forward to warmer weather. Winter, gray clouds and snow are giving way to sunshine, blue skies, and warm thoughts.

It has been a roller coaster ride these past few years for Palladium, and I’m sure, for many of you. The thing about roller coasters is that they are fun and exciting but also scary and alarming at times. Heck, there are moments you feel like you’re going to fly off the tracks and plummet to your doom only to be jerked to safety at the last moment and coast gently to the end. Despite the wild ups and downs, twists and turns, the ride leaves you exhilarated and anxious for more thrills. We have enjoyed some exciting ups and scary turns during the wild ride of these past few years, but we came out of it okay and exhilarated. We hope you did as well. Now, we are ready for some new excitement.

As Palladium moves forward, we hope you’ll come along with us for the ride because we have all kinds of thrills waiting for you. A few of them are big. Really big. Though we dare not say anything definitive until we can go public with the news or until books are heading to the printer or we launch a new Kickstarter campaign.

In the last Update, Sean talked about a “shared vision.” As wonderful as he made it sound, the truly shared vision between him and me is a rare and beautiful thing. There are days our creative energy feels like one person as we help each other elevate our ideas and take our work to the next level. The things we are working toward and building together are … wow. And our energy is inspiring other creators – artists and writers – to give their all to their contributions with astonishing results. I’d better get back to it. I have books to finish and projects to initiate. I’m just glad I have Sean, the Palladium staff, and magnificent freelancers at my side to turn the stuff of dreams and musings into reality. I’ve been saying this for a while, at least internally at the office, that it feels like Palladium Books in 1985. A significant time when we were just about to take off and anything seemed possible. To steal an old video game term, going “Gold” means that the master copy of a game is finished and has been sent to the printers to be produced on physical disks like floppies, CDs, etc.

We sent the finalized files to our printers on Monday so I am pleased to inform you that we are solidly on track to begin fulfillment in June! With expanded classic monsters, new beasties by me and Kevin, and a slew of killer art, we are doing our best to make sure that this one is a satisfying follow-up to Rifts® Bestiary Volume One.

UPDATE: Yin-Sloth Jungles™ Expanded and Updated to 2nd Edition Rules: This book is going to feel like a new adventure featuring dozens of new maps by the talented Phil Stone, second-edition revisions and expanded material by John Klinkel, all personally updated by Kevin. May release.

UPDATE: Rifts® Antarctica. Though it’s a book or two down the pipeline, Kevin and I have been working with Mike Majestic on a bunch of great new illustrations. This whole book is gonna be a beauty with art by Steven Cummings, Mike Majestic, Mike Mumah, Amy Ashbaugh, and others. When Kevin told two visitors about the expanded material that is not in the Raw Preview they drooled and one said, “Now I have to absolutely buy that book, too.”

UPDATE: Secret Projects behind the scenes. Kevin isn’t joking when he says that we have a lot of incredible stuff brewing behind the scenes on different fronts. While our primary focus is releasing long-awaited books while steadily making improvements to our production processes, layout quality, and other practical updates, we also have some exciting projects in motion. I can’t wait to share more of these with y’all soon.

Eye Surgery: Palladium has experienced a whirlwind of events lately. This Tuesday Kevin had eye surgery for a cataract in his right eye. Though it meant I spent most of the day with him driving to the surgery and then to follow-up appointments, it was well worth it because everything went smoothly. Kevin even relaxed a bit Wednesday after I kicked him out of the office when he tried to sneak in and work. Thanks to fan Larry H. who posted a cool photo of Kevin dressed in M.D.C. body armor to social media – I’m not sure if it was photo-bashed or AI-generated (Wayne thinks it’s a Doppleganger), but it is the spitting image of Kevin if he were the commander of a Rifts® merc company. It even had him wearing sunglasses that look like the ones they make you wear after an optometrist appointment, which was uncanny since Kevin was wearing them that same day, so I printed the picture out and taped it to Kevin’s door. It’s still there.

In Point of Fact — we’ve had some of you reaching out to us to ask if pre-orders are eligible to receive the Savage Rifts conversion PDFs for Titan Robotics™ and the Cyberworks™ Collection. Many are Savage Worlds fans who have had their interest piqued by Rifts® for Savage Worlds and are unfamiliar with Palladium’s general way of doing things. First off, welcome! Second, I’d like to make a few points to help clarify everyone’s expectations:

There are technically two Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) conversion documents. The first is the Titan Robotics™ SWADE conversion. The second is the Cyberworks™ Collection SWADE conversion, which was a stretch goal that Kevin and I decided to grant to all backers as an early Christmas present. For brevity, I call the docs “Savage Titan Robotics” and “Savage Cyberworks” but be advised that these are purely rules conversions, they won’t mean much without the context of Palladium’s Titan Robotics™ or Cyberworks™ Collection sourcebooks.
Palladium Books, unlike Pinnacle Entertainment Group (the makers of the Savage Worlds RPG), does NOT release PDFs for public sale immediately upon the release of print books. Without getting technical about business strategies, etc., please just respect that our two companies have very different market approaches.
This means that crowdfunding campaigns and pre-orders that include PDFs are often a unique chance to purchase PDFs at a discounted pledge or pre-order bundle price.
On the flip side, Palladium prints locally here in the USA, often at a printer just a short drive down the road from our offices in Michigan. This means that our physical products ship out in weeks, not months, which is worth considering when purchasing physical books – especially in regard to pre-orders and crowdfunding campaigns.
The Titan Robotics™ campaign is the first time that Palladium has Kickstarted a book. We are still learning as we go and are doing our best to accommodate a wide range of customer needs.

So, to get back to the core topic, both Savage Rifts® conversion documents are strictly Kickstarter rewards, but the Mechanoids® (and therefore the Cyberworks™) content is especially so due to our current licensing agreement with Pinnacle Entertainment. I was super duper clear about this during the Kickstarter and all of the related interviews, but it seems new fans still got confused and were under the impression that these items would be put up for sale as PDFs as soon as they are finished. This is definitely not the case. That said, we’re bummed if any well-meaning fans get left out of the fun due to what seems to have been a fairly common misconception.

So Kevin, Wayne, and I had a good chat and decided to go with an option requested by multiple Palladium fans many months ago — we are offering the following general release books bundled with the PDF, plus the associated Savage Rifts® conversion PDFs. Closing Thoughts – Shared Vision

This week has me doubly excited because not only have Titan Robotics™ and the Cyberworks™ Collection gone to print, but the latest three big Rifts® for Savage Worlds® products that I led development on are being released for backer review by my friends at Pinnacle Entertainment Group. One game system – every genre – countless worlds – endless adventure

A couple of fans, Ramsey and Sam, from Kansas, just left the office. They were in town and dropped by to see if they could visit awhile. As you know, we are always happy to hang with visitors whenever we have the time. Sadly, we had to keep this visit short as we’re battling a number of deadlines. Still, we were able to give them a partial tour of the office, chatted awhile, I gave up some secrets about upcoming Rifts® Antarctica, showed them artwork of some of the new monsters for Rifts® Bestiary 2, they bought a pile ‘o books, and they left smiling and laughing. They are great guys and it was a nice break for me and the crew after a rough, chaotic week. But we had to dive right back to work. These books don’t write or lay themselves out, you know. [Trust me, I know. – Sean]

We’re glad so many of you enjoyed the sale of art prints. One crafty gent (you know who you are) bought 35 prints! Some for himself, some as gifts. It was smart of him to take advantage of the half-off sale like that. I try to do the same thing, buying sale items or cool things for Christmas and birthday gifts all year long as I come across them. The guy is undoubtedly a Game Master.

As delighted as I am with it, Island at the Edge of the World™ 2nd Edition will be not be as heavily expanded and rewritten as Yin-Sloth. May release.

UPDATE: Rifts® Antarctica. Though it’s a book or two down the pipeline, I just approved a half-dozen Mike Majestic illustrations for it and they are gorgeous. This whole book is gonna be a beauty with art by Steven Cummings, Mike Majestic, Mike Mumah, Amy Ashbaugh, and others. Oh, and when I told our two visitors about the material not in the Raw Preview they drooled and one said, “Now I have to absolutely buy that book too.” Heh, hee, hee.

UPDATE: Secret Projects behind the scenes. I don’t think most of you understand how much we have brewing behind the scenes on different fronts. Not just releasing long-awaited books and new surprises, but other exciting changes and improvements. Well, you will very soon.

UPDATE: My eBay Store for collectibles. Alex and I have added some new art and negatives by the time you read this Weekly Update. The one–of-a-kind negatives are from early books and each lets you own a piece of Palladium history (and art) on the cheap. I’m also considering putting some Ramon Perez and other art up for sale. My store offers an eclectic range of Palladium collectibles including Robotech® RPG books and negatives, other out of print Palladium titles, first printings, toys, and a couple dozen one-of-a-kind negatives, proofreader copies of books, as well as toys and action figures and other odds and ends (http://stores.ebay.com/kevinstoys-artandcollectibles). However, many of these items sell within a few days after they get posted, so keep your eyes peeled. We continue to add Palladium collectibles and negatives at least once a week.

Happy Times, Part 2: Wayne Smith is now a married man, and he’s back from his wedding and honeymoon. Our heartfelt congratulations to the married couple! And boy are we glad Wayne is back. (Sorry, Wayne, but we missed you and need you here.) With Crystal taking time off to mourn the passing of her mother, and a bunch of unexpected craziness (mostly good, but demanding nonetheless), we’ve all been pulling double-duty. So it’s nice having another pair of hands back on deck.

We want your feedback and suggests as we build for the future. I have talked about how we need and want your suggestions in a few recent Updates. That caused a number of you to ask, how and where can you send suggestions and comments?

Well, one ideal way is to send us suggestions and comments via a Help Desk ticket/email – it is direct and private. Another is to comment in public on our Forums, but that can elicit all manner of friendly and not so friendly commentary from others. Honestly, I only check the forums sporadically or when our admin points comments out to us. We are also considering a “Suggestions and Letters Box” that would go directly to me and Sean. Closing Thoughts – Be good to yourselves

Despite several days of delightful sunshine and summer-like temperatures in April, I’ve been battling writer’s block and the blues for a solid week. Thankfully, my writer’s block usually doesn’t last for more than a week or so, and I snapped out of it yesterday. I have been writing up a storm today.

I think my blues had to do with pushing too hard for too many months, being worn out, and feeling sad for Crystal and her family’s loss. Losing a parent at any age is painful and difficult. Losing one when you are in your early twenties is devastating. That made me think about, and feel, the recent loss of Julius Rosenstein anew. Jules’ birthday would have been April 7 so he has been on my mind. To compound matters, everywhere I went I saw something I would have bought him as a birthday gift. He’s been a dear friend for most of my life and he is missed. That in turn made me think about the many other loved ones I have lost, and we have known great loss. My Mom, Dad, Julius, Eric Wujcik, Kay Kozora, and Keith Parkinson to name but a few. Meanwhile, there were all kinds of demands on my time, and the general state of the world and our economy sent me spiraling into a dark, sorrowful place.

Like I said, I found my way out of my deep funk and I’m doing okay. But what about you? How are you doing? Well, I hope.

Please don’t let things get you down too much. When they do, cut yourself some slack and be good to yourself. Do something nice just for you. Make the time to relax a little and have some fun. Playing games, especially RPGs with friends, can be a great help. Sometimes just reading or rereading your favorite game or sourcebook, plotting an adventure, reading a novel, or going to the movies, and even just talking or meeting with a friend(s) makes all the difference in the world. I tried all of that, but it still took a while to pull myself out of the blues. But you know what? That’s okay. It’s okay to feel sad or down as long as you find your way out of it. RPGs are a great way to escape for a few hours from our real world when it becomes a bit too daunting. It helps us to catch our breath and reset our thoughts.

Sean’s awesome daughter Autumn and his parents Yvonne and Larry are all in town visiting. I think spending some quality time with these lovely people and going to see the new Dungeons & Dragons movie together helped. By the way, the D&D movie is fast paced and pretty darn good. You might want to check it out.

It’s okay to need to take a break sometimes. People are what’s most important in our lives. People and the experiences we share are what make lasting memories and bring us happiness and love. Go out or call a loved one and get a dose of friendship and love from someone who cares. And while you’re at it, be kind to others you encounter along the way, because they can probably use a compliment, a thank you, or kind word too.

Please remember you are not alone. How do I know? Because you have us here at Palladium Books. We care and have your backs as best we can. It’s why I continue to randomly sign books you may have ordered online and why we make time to visit with fans who swing by the office. It’s important, beautiful and necessary. It recharges our batteries and reminds us that life is good and we are not alone. Ramsey and Sam’s visit out of nowhere made my day. We had a nice time, short as it was. It made us all laugh and smile and put a bounce in our step. That simple, friendly, pleasant interaction was important and lifted all of our spirits. Cool, right? Damn straight.

All of you are part of our extended Palladium family. We appreciate you and we care. We think of you and your wants and needs as we write every single book. You should see me and Sean as we spit-ball ideas and talk about how the fans will love this or that. We write about the things that make us excited as fan-boys ourselves. Ideas, people, monsters, villains, and heroes that will wow you or surprise you and inspire you to build your own great adventures. The same goes for the dynamic artwork, rules, and design of our books. There are times that Sean and I are downright giddy with excitement over the ideas we are bringing to life for you.

Sure, making money is important. The more successful we are, the more people we can hire and the more products we can release. But making quality RPG books and supplements packed with wow factor, ideas, and fun is just as important. Heck, it is the most important, at least to us. It’s why our games are jam-packed with excitement and great artwork. We are passionate about the creative process and working with other creators. Please Help a Palladium Stalwart

Hey folks, you may know Jeff Ruiz, a.k.a. NMI, as the Admin on the Palladium Books forums/website for, oh, the last 20 or 30 years now. What you may not know is he helps out in many ways behind the scenes: managing the forums, organizing G.M.s at conventions and Open Houses, and the Megaversal Ambassadors, as well as being a confidante and sounding board on projects few others even know about. We’ve also been there for each other through thick and thin. Jeff can be a bit rough around the edges at times, but he has a heart of gold, is a true Palladium devotee, and a friend. In short, he’s a largely invisible but important member of the Palladium community.

Jeff has struggled with a bone disease called Charcot and infected bones. He lost his lower left leg a few years ago. He lost his right leg and his job in January. Each signed negative is a one-of-a-kind work of art (on rare occasions, two-of-a-kind if a page or section of pages were replaced or a second edition was made) that resembles woodcut art, and a very dynamic conversation piece.
Each signed negative is on a white board inside a clear plastic bag.
Negatives looks fabulous matted or framed! Fits in an 8×10 inch matt opening. Each neg is roughly 8½ x 11 inches.
Prices vary depending on the title, the art, and quality of the negative. Note: Many have scratches, or blemishes, and/or an opaque medium on the negative. Still, they look great and are a piece of RPG history. We recommend you carefully examine the photographs of each item to avoid disappointment.
We have been making the negatives available, in no particular order, for a number of years, and will continue to do so. However, cutting them loose, signing and bagging is a time consuming process.

Closing Thoughts – Our pledge to you

This week has been a mixed bag ranging from wild excitement, something sad, something good, and something great. We have so many things moving and building behind the scenes.

I want remind you of the three things we have pledged to you and ourselves:

1. We promised to start bringing to you the many books announced over the year for which you have been waiting. There is no set order for that and it does not mean there may not be unannounced titles and even brand new releases – things we have been working on for months and in some cases, years behind the scenes. Some of those titles you know about, like Rifts® Bestiary Volume Two, Rifts® Antarctica (the art and concepts are amazing), Beyond the Supernatural and Palladium Fantasy RPG® sourcebooks, and others. When we see an opportunity we seize it. So when the right freelance writer volunteers to work on one of those projects, like Yin-Sloth Jungles and Island at the Edge of the World, we put it into motion. After all, it has minimum impact on larger prioritized releases and they are among the books many of you have been waiting for as promised. When we can drop a long awaited title into the print schedule, we’ll do it. Please note, Yin-Sloth is getting much more of a rewrite and expansion than at the Edge of the World, but it needed it. By the way, neither of these two fantasy titles are spur of the moment releases done on a whim. Both books have been in quiet development for a year! So are other titles. Under our new policy we just aren’t announcing releases until they are close to going to the printer.

2. As always, we need and want to hear from you. Please tell us what you think we are doing right, what you think we are doing wrong, what announced titles you are most anxious to see, what new subjects or settings or genres you might want us to consider, adventure and book ideas, and so on. You are super-important to us. You are our valued core customer base and members of our extended family. We never forget that and you shouldn’t either.

3. We are rebuilding Palladium’s Foundation to become rock solid and stronger than ever before. A strong foundation means being able to bring you quality products faster and bring you everything your (and our) hearts desire. We have been lining up great writers, artists, and internal personnel all happening invisibly behind the scenes. All vital as we grow into the company we all want Palladium to be.

Oh, and Sean and I dream big. So our apologies if we start blowing your minds and make you smile on a regular basis. Great gaming will be coming your way very soon.
