Hey everyone. Did you survive the big snow from last week? We did too. Not only that, but I have found some quiet time to get in some productive writing. There are so many new books we want to finish and get into your hands as soon as possible. The Rifter® #85, Rifts® CS Manhunters, and BTS: Creature Feature being just three of them. We don’t want to raise expectations by saying too much, too soon, but we think you will be very pleased with all that is coming your way this year. There is also an array of fun little products coming as well. The Palladium Open House – April 21 (for VIPs), 22, 23, and 24 – will debut a number of these new products in one form or another. The POH also gives us the opportunity to test market ideas and get feedback from those in attendance.

I have pushed trouble and woes out of my head to focus on creativity and fun. Creativity is easy as we are bursting with ideas. Fun is easy too, because we are getting so pumped about the 2022 Palladium Open House and the scads of products, large and small, that will be available there. I have been happily unleashing my imagination to write and be creative in a lot of different areas. That includes working with a number of writers and artists to keep things moving on many fronts for several of our game lines. Despite the deadlines and pressure of it all, I’m having a blast creating and writing and orchestrating projects with other creators. I love what I do and I’m having the time of my life putting together the best Palladium Open House and releasing a torrent of new products in several different areas.

I’m tempted to say I’m especially excited about this or that, but I’m excited about it all. The three new T-shirts, a couple of old favorite T-shirts brought back, a dozen nostalgic art prints, piles of one-of-a-kind negatives, a couple of surprise books (if we can pull it off), new resin miniatures, a dozen out of print goodies pulled out of our archives, some cool stuff for the live auction, and a number of other surprises on a few different fronts! I’m being vague because these are “surprises” for those coming to Palladium’s 40th Birthday bash. Moreover, my 66th birthday, Julius’s 73rd, Matthew Clements’ 36th, and Joe Bergmans’ 52nd will have all taken place just a few weeks and days earlier, and Wayne’s birthday is a week after the POH, so we plan to have some fun at the Open House! If you have not ordered your admissions tickets, now is the time to do so. We want a lot of Palladium fans present to celebrate this milestone and get in some fun.

For me, part of that fun will be running 4-5 games with 12-14 players taking the roles of the Legendary Defiler characters and running them through adventures in the fabled Palladium of Desires. Yes, this is the cast of characters and the fantasy campaign that inspired me to create RPGs in the first place and helped launch Palladium Books! The characters will be many of those depicted from that piece of art on page 3 of every Palladium Fantasy RPG ever published. Coake the Ranger, XarXar the Wizard, Lucifer Deeth the Sasquatch warrior, Nameless the Priest of Narabium, and others will be available as pre-generated player characters. Player characters adventuring in the fabled Palladium of Desires and who may meet The Joker, the Demon Mirror, and … well, you’ll have to wait and see. This game just seems perfect for a 40th Anniversary POH Celebration and it’s only the second time in 40 years that I’m letting new people glimpse the game and characters that started it all.

Announcement: Congratulations to Rex Barkdoll and Maggie for their rapidly approaching wedding. Rex is an awesome human being, a dear friend, and a regular source of help and ideas. He is also the gent who designed the Palladium Books website and store that you have been enjoying for years. Maggie is the smart, sweet lady who has won Rex’s heart. They will be eloping the day after the POH, which is why he and she will not be present this year. Our warmest wishes to Rex and Maggie from all of us at Palladium.

Announcement: Congratulations to Roger Cartier and Stacy for their wedding next autumn. Roger and his late wife Randi’s names appear in many early Palladium Fantasy books. They gamed with me for a decade or two, and Roger is another great person and dear, dear friend. Sadly, Randi passed away some years ago, but we are thrilled that Rog has found a new sweetheart. We know these two are made for each other and we send them our heartfelt congratulations and warmest regards. Can’t wait to learn more about their wedding plans.

All this marriage stuff suggests spring is in the air early this year. We are so happy for our friends.

 

10 titles are being reprinted. We are staying on top of inventory and have recently submitted 10 titles for reprints so we don’t run out. There are only a few that may go temporarily out of stock, and if they do, they’ll only be out of print for a week or two. Meanwhile, we think we have found ourselves a trio of viable alternative printers with good to excellent turnaround times without sacrificing quality. We’ll soon see. Fingers crossed. Unfortunately, that does not apply to hardcover books. Still looking for a competitively priced hardcover printer with a fast turnaround time. That means for the time being we remain at the mercy of our current printer.

 

Chaos Earth® RPG Hardcover – temporarily out of print. Even though we requested this title in October, we are still waiting for it. Most of the other hardcovers are available with decent numbers in stock, but a few may go out of print by April or May. That includes the Original Palladium RPG Deluxe Foil hardcover. With any luck, we’ll get a restock before that happens, but we just don’t know with these guys.

 

Hardcover Update. The two new hardcovers – the Original Palladium Fantasy RPG® (1st Edition rules) Deluxe Foil Hardcover (includes the Arms of Nargash-Tor sourcebook) AND the Splicers® RPG “Bonus” Hardcover – continue to blow out the doors at lightning speed. They are selling so fast, we had to put 50 of each aside to make sure we have copies available at the Open House. Please keep those orders coming for all the hardcovers and other books, prints, poker cards, mugs, etc.

 

Update: Rifts® CS Manhunters – I spent the weekend and most of this week working on finishing this dynamic book. Great stuff if I do say so myself.

The British are coming! I was happy to learn that our contingent of fun-loving gamer pals from England will be attending the Open House – Paul, Ian, Matt – plus they are bringing a couple of new faces with them. Jolly good, indeed!

 

General Note: Overall the energy here at Palladium is high and full of fun and excitement. I think a lot of great work and ideas are being laid out. Anticipation for the Palladium Open House is a big driver of our motivation and sense of fun. Cannot wait to see so many old friends and fans at the POH and we want to have a lot of new goodies available when they get there.

The new Small Scale Resin Printed Military Spacecraft Series is a collection of 3D printable sci-fi space fighters designed by Michael Majestic in the spirit of 1980s anime, old school sci-fi aesthetics – arguably, some of the most striking and creatively bold work ever produced by Japanese animation studios. Mike has captured that boldness with clean lines and appealing visual designs. Additionally the digital 4K box art plus orthographic views of each fighter owes much to the way Japanese model and garage kit makers presented their releases in the 1980s and 90s (Tamiya aircraft, Dougram, Crusher Joe, Macross, etc.). While these are ultimately resin printed miniatures, and not model kits, they very much capture that sf anime feel. With more to come. Check it out. Price of admission covers all events. Being accepted into a game event is on a first-come, first served basis. Dates: April 21 (VIP Thursday a separate cost), April 22, 23, 24.

POH Game Masters NEEDED

We need plenty of games to satisfy 250 gamers, so your help is appreciated and welcomed. Julius Rosenstein is running 7 games; so is Kevin Siembieda (+ panel talks and hanging out with you!); Glen Evans, Greg Diaczyk, John Klinkel, Mike Leonard, and other writers are also running games, and many of our usual fine G.M. volunteers are running games – James Brown, Ryan McDaniel, Mike Silva, etc., are running games. You should too!

Game Event Info we need from each G.M.

  • RPG/World setting (Rifts®, Chaos Earth®, Palladium Fantasy®, Heroes Unlimited, After the Bomb®, Dead Reign®, Nightbane®, Splicers®, BTS, Ninjas & Superspies, etc.). Yes, you can run Robotech® or TMNT® based RPG games if you desire. Or even Savage Rifts®!
  • A brief, but dynamic description of the role-playing game.
  • Maximum Number of Players: 6-10 is typical, but run what YOU feel comfortable with running.
  • Running Time: 3-4 hours is typical, and best for these kinds of events, longer can be a problem.
  • What days you can run: VIP Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday?
  • When: Do you have a preferred time of day you want to run? If so, what is it? Specify preferences (10 AM, noon, 8:00 PM, what)?
    If we can NOT give you the preferred time slot, are you willing to run at a different time, earlier or later?
  • Multiple games: If you are running multiple times, is it the same game? If different games please provide all this information for EACH game you intend to run.
  • Please bring pre-rolled “player” character sheets: G.M.s, we strongly advise providing pre-rolled character sheets/descriptions for each player. Why waste time rolling up characters? Let’s game!
  • Minimum age of the players: Especially if the game has mature content or extreme violence. Please indicate if it is not suitable for players under the age of 17.

POH Safety Requirements

for Attendance at the 2022 Palladium Open House

Mask Wearing Required: Everyone participating in the Palladium Open House — including all attendees, exhibitors, Game Masters, event organizers, and event staff — will be required to wear a mask in all indoor spaces AT ALL TIMES, unless actively eating or drinking in “designated areas” or “outdoors.”

Masks must cover the nose and mouth and fit snugly against the sides without gaps. Masks may be manufactured or homemade and should consist of a solid piece of material WITHOUT slits, exhalation valves, or punctures. Wearing a mask helps to protect those around you. Only N95 level masks offer superior protection for yourself as well as those around you. See complete details in the online store description.

 

POH Waiver of Liability

The purchase of a Palladium Open House (POH) admission admits one person to all activities and exhibits at the POH during regularly scheduled hours of the Open House and events. In accepting a badge and in consideration for being admitted to the Palladium Open House, the holder consents to being recorded (by audio and/or visual means) for exhibition and exploitation by any means in all media, including without limitation the Internet, worldwide in perpetuity.

The badge holder releases Palladium Books Inc. from any liability for loss or damage to persons or property, infringement of any right, or any other claim or course of action of any kind; authorizes and permits Palladium Books, Inc. and its designees which includes but is not limited to all guests, exhibitors, and contractors to use and authorize the use of his/her name, voice, likeness and all reproductions thereof by any means and in all media now and hereafter known, including without limitation, the Internet, for all purposes worldwide in perpetuity; and agrees to comply with all the rules and regulations of the Event. Available now: One-of-a-kind book negatives. Negatives are always very popular items at the Palladium Open House and Gen Con. Truly unique, attractive, and fun.

Negatives are unique and attractive, one-of-a-kind (on rare occasions two-of-a-kind if a page or section of pages were replaced or a second edition was made) works of art that resemble woodcut art and are very dynamic conversation pieces. Before digital printing, pages of a book were laid out by hand on a board, and each page was photographed. The plastic film negatives were then “ganged” on a massive sheet of Mylar 16 pages per big sheet, and the printing plates were made from the negatives – everything white, printing black.

When our printer, McNaughton and Gunn was going to discard them, Palladium acquired many (not all) of the old negatives. I am only keeping a few books for myself and make majority of the rest available to you. I sign each negative in silver and each comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The negative comes on a white board inside a plastic magazine bag and looks fabulous framed! Fits in an 8×10 inch matt opening in a frame (each neg is roughly 8½ x 11 inches). But don’t miss the other collectibles as well.
