We spent most of Wednesday afternoon packing up the many pre-orders. Those shipped via UPS went out. The United States Post Office did NOT pick up the 11 tubs of mail (about 100 packages) on Wednesday, presumably because of the weather. So much for US Mail’s old axiom about neither rain, or snow, or sleet, etc., stopping the mail. It’s sad how the USPS has gone downhill in service. They used to be great. Those packages should go out today (Thursday) or tomorrow, Friday.

Fantasy News of a different sort! Rawson Marshall Thurber (Red Notice) is to oversee the adaptation of a Dungeons & Dragons® live action series and maybe write and direct a few episodes. That’s exciting news for fantasy fans and for Rawson, who is red hot right now. This may also be good news for Palladium Books. Rawson has wanted to do Rifts® as a movie or TV/streaming series for nearly two decades now. With his growing success, can a Rifts® movie or series be far behind?! Actually, no one knows. I just hope to see a quality one in my life time, which, I fear, is starting to approach its expiration date, so let’s hope so, eh? Meanwhile, congratulations to Rawson. I hope he helps to create a fun and successful D&D series. Hmmm, if we all start chanting “Rifts® series, Rifts® series, Rifts® series” will it echo along the ley line to shift the cosmic axis and make it happen? Worth a try, I say. All together now, “Rifts® series …”

Trying to catch up on correspondences. To those of you who submitted Help Desk inquiries during the holiday months through January that were not urgent, you probably did not see a reply. Our apologies. We were so overwhelmed and short-handed that we just couldn’t get to most of them. We hope you understand. We are trying to reply to some of them now. We appreciate those of you who sent nice comments about Surprise Packages and fast receipt of your well packaged orders. You can thank our new Lord of the Warehouse, Crystal and old ace Julius for that. Likewise, if you ordered the new Crimson Fantasy Hardcover (first edition rules) or the Splicers Hardcover your order has been waiting for those books to arrive and will ship as soon as we can dig out and get to the warehouse.

Palladium Open House – April 21-24, 2022. I wrote a long, wonderful updated description and … accidentally deleted the damn thing. Four hours of work gone. Juggling too much, moving too fast, and I made a bonehead move. More details about the POH next week.

Palladium to Attend Gen Con – August 4-7, 2022. Palladium Books will be at Gen Con this August with its usual booth. If you are attending, please swing on over to check out all the hardcover editions, new releases, chat a while, and get autographs. Wayne, Crystal, and I will be manning the booth, along with helpers and writers like Mark Oberle, Glen Evans, and a few others.

We imagine there will be some Palladium-based RPG events this year. I think Glen Evans and Mike Silva are both running games, along with a number of other folks, but with Jeff “NMI” Ruiz and Cameron Cleveland dealing with non-Covid health issues of their own, we have been short-handed and unable to coordinate a block of Palladium specific gaming events for Gen Con this year. Sorry. Note: There is still time for those Game Masters who want to run Gen Con games to sign–up and register games as an individual Game Master as long as you do so by March 10. The more Palladium based game events, the better, and we are happy to support G.M.s as best we can with our usual range of discount coupons and such at the booth. Please do not hesitate to reach out.

Rifts Coalition Manhunters

The Rifts® CS Manhunters Sourcebook will top out at 192-224 pages. Available now: One-of-a-kind book negatives. Negatives are always very popular items at the Palladium Open House and Gen Con. Truly unique, attractive, and fun.

Negatives are unique and attractive, one-of-a-kind (on rare occasions two-of-a-kind if a page or section of pages were replaced or a second edition was made) works of art that resemble woodcut art and are very dynamic conversation pieces. Before digital printing, pages of a book were laid out by hand on a board, and each page was photographed. The plastic film negatives were then “ganged” on a massive sheet of Mylar 16 pages per big sheet, and the printing plates were made from the negatives – everything white, printing black.

When our printer, McNaughton and Gunn was going to discard them, Palladium acquired many (not all) of the old negatives. I am only keeping a few books for myself and make majority of the rest available to you. I sign each negative in silver and each comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The negative comes on a white board inside a plastic magazine bag and looks fabulous framed! Fits in an 8×10 inch matt opening in a frame (each neg is roughly 8½ x 11 inches). But don’t miss the other collectibles as well.

Closing Thoughts

Our focus has been on business, finding alternative printers with quicker turn-around times and good prices for quality work, finishing new titles, and, well, the snowstorm. At this point, snow is looking like an unpleasant but manageable 10-15 inches by the end of today. It started snowing Wednesday morning at 8:30 AM. What made it rough is that it transitioned from 10 hours of rain to snow, making wet and heavy slush. Now it’s supposed to turn to below freezing temperatures. freezing everything. Delightful … whaaahhh. If you are in the path of the storm, stay warm, be smart about clearing driveways and sidewalks, and drive carefully.

This weekend might be a good time to snuggle up with a good RPG book or fun TV series, and/or slip in an RPG game or two using Zoom or Discord, etc. And don’t forget to take advantage of those Palladium Fantasy® Bundles of Holding.
