We are rockin’ on all fronts – finishing a host of new product – The Rifter® #85, Rifts® CS Manhunters, and Creature Feature, among many others, plotting new product, doing business, and of course, prep work for the Palladium Open House (POH). Getting out new product and Open House preparations are our top priority at the moment and we will have a number of new products debuting before and at the POH.

By the way, a business person came by the warehouse the other day and loved the Open House display and setup, saying it looks great and that he would like to come to the event, himself. Nice, right? We have put a lot of time and effort into cleaning, reorganizing, and putting up display materials to make the place look extra special for our 40th Anniversary Open House. Not just the warehouse itself, but I want the gaming events, the product offered (old and new), the T-shirts, the auction items, special little giveaways and surprises, everything to be special! Some of it is retro and nostalgic. Some of it new. All of it is to remind everyone of happy times, lasting friendships and fond memories of the past while making wonderful new memories at this once-in-a-lifetime 40th anniversary celebration. A historic event, when you think about it.

For those of you new to the Palladium Open House concept, it is a mini-convention held at the Palladium warehouse. But is much more than a convention. The POH is a gathering of friends, freelancers, and fans who are all part of our extended family. Thus, it is no surprise it has the feel of an intimate three-day party or family reunion filled with laughter and fun. It is the largest gathering of Palladium artists, writers, and personalities anywhere in the world. Best of all, these amazing creators make themselves available most the day, every day, throughout the entire event. Tell me any convention where that happens. And because you really are our extended family, we are happy to see you and pleased to chat and interact with you. Many of these creators and personalities are happy to run games, too. Me, Julius, Sean, Steve, Glen, Greg, Mark, Mike, a whole slew of us! Plus there are panel talks, gaming events, the live auction (crazy cool this year), a lounge area, and a couple hundred fellow gamers from around the world.

Health and safety are on our mind as we are taking additional precautions in having the warehouse professionally cleaned, spacing tables in the gaming area farther apart, providing Clorox wipes to wipe down surfaces, and the warehouse itself is spacious with 30 foot ceilings with good air circulation. In addition, if the weather is nice and warm, and it is supposed to be, we will open the bay doors for fresh air and increased circulation.

HOTEL UPDATE: Rumors that the hotels are sold out for the POH are not true. There has been some sporadic chatter online that the hotels are sold out. This is NOT true. Both hotels still have rooms available. If you get someone who does not know about the Palladium Books Group Rate, ask to speak to the manager or call back another time or day. HOWEVER, rooms are sold on a first come, first served basis, so book sooner than later. We have checked with both hotels and their staff should know about the special Palladium Books room rate. EXTENDED room reservation date – March 31 – to get the discounted Palladium Books Group Rate. HOWEVER, rooms are selling fast now and are sold on a first come, first served basis! Do not delay.

Red Roof Inn is the least expensive ($50 and $55 per night) and always sells out first. It offers a two double bed or one king-size bed room option. If you do not need the two beds, please go with the king-size so people sharing a room can get the two bed rooms. Thanks! Phone: 734-459-3300 and ask for the Palladium Books Group Block. Comfort Inn Plymouth-West Livonia is an upscale business person hotel ($99 per night) – and is well worth the extra cost. At $99 a night it is a steal. Phone: 734-455-8100 and ask for the rooms reserved for the Palladium Books event.

An alternative hotel might be the La Quinta in Canton NEAR Ford Road and I-275 and minutes from Palladium, just like the other hotels. We do not have a discount block rate with them, but their regular rooms are typically around $80, though at that price I’d suggest paying a little more to stay at the more luxurious Comfort Inn, above, which is super-nice and quiet. UPDATE: The Rifter® #85 is laid out and if all goes well, should be getting its final proofreading and sent to the printer next week. It should become available before the Open House. Note: Since The Rifter® #85 is the 2021 Annual (delayed), we will also be publishing The Rifter® #86 this autumn, so start getting us new submissions for it by June 30, 2022!

UPDATE: Rifts® CS Manhunters. I am still confident it too will be finished in time to ship before the Open House. Btw, I set Alex’s mind on fire with the latest writing for this book. It prompted him to pay me one of the greatest compliments I have ever gotten in my whole life from anyone: That I am his favorite writer. That only three other writers come close. Wow. That statement blew me away. It came out of nowhere and he was so sincere and sweet about it. I’m always striving to push the envelope, challenge myself, and do the best I can, but your powerful words humble me and bring me to my knees. I love you, Alex. Thank you. A lot more dynamic material is coming, my dear friends, and not just from me.

UPDATE: Creature Feature BTS Sourcebook. No promises, but my personal goal is to have this book available at the Palladium Open House. I know Sean is cringing at this statement, but that’s my goal. If for no other reason than you will love it. It will also be nice for author and compiler Steven Dawes to get the accolades he deserves with it by having the book debut at the POH, where he is running games and hosting panel talks. I’m working on it, buddy!

UPDATE: New T-shirts. We should have three new T-shirts debut at the POH and I may bring back a couple of old faves.

UPDATE: Other Product Debuts (and returns) at the Palladium Open House will be released to the world at large in the weeks after the POH. And after we get a little time to recover. I know, I know, no rest for the weary, and we will be pushing forward to get you more new books.

UPDATE: Chaos Earth® RPG Hardcover – it may be back in stock by the end of next week. I say “may” because this is our unreliable hardcover printer. That said, they reached out to me with a ship date, so I am guardedly optimistic. Then again, so is Charlie Brown every time he goes to kick that football. A few other hardcovers that are running dangerously low are supposed to ship with it, so fingers crossed. Btw, all of them sent in for reprint back in October of last year. That’s how long we’ve been waiting for them. And what a good planner I am to still have most of them in stock for you.

UPDATE: Hardcovers in General. All the hardcover editions continue to sell steadily. In fact on Tuesday, almost a dozen orders included at least one or two hardcovers, some had four or five. I am happy you are enjoying them. My thanks to the customers whose suggestions about doing the hardcovers prompted me to make them available. Now if we could only find a more reliable hardcover printer.

See you at Gen Con Indy! The POH is not the only game convention that will have a Palladium Books presence this year. We will have our usual full-sized booth at Gen Con with new product, recent releases, and a good representation of our products. Not to mention Palladium folks like me (Kevin Siembieda), Wayne Smith, Crystal Willard, Mark Oberle (writer), Glen Evans (writer), Mike Leonard (but come anyway), and others.

UPDATE: What else is up at Palladium Books? While the focus of this Update remains on the Palladium Open House – April 21 (for VIPs), 22, 23, and 24 – because it is coming up fast – 7 weeks away – the rest of you are NOT forgotten. We remain enthusiastic and full of excitement about this entire year, coming new releases, Gen Con, and a few surprises. I think you will be pleased with what’s coming and Palladium’s performance as we get back into a sustainable schedule of new book and non-book product releases.

We have all sorts of product you will enjoy, with an emphasis on new and epic RPG books. That starts with books you have been expecting like Rifts® CS Manhunters, as well as Rifts® Titan Robotics, Rifts® Bestiary Volume 2, and Rifts® Antarctica. Plus titles you might have thought we’d forgotten about like Rifts® Disavowed, Rifts® CS Arsenal, Land of the Damned 3 (Fantasy), Lopan (Fantasy), Land of the South Winds, Beyond the Supernatural sourceboooks, a couple of new Raw Editions, and a whole heck of a lot more are still in the pipeline for future releases. Including a few surprises and the return of a few older titles and T-shirts. And that’s not even the BIG stuff that will completely blow your minds in Palladium’s five year growth plan. Price of admission covers all events. Being accepted into a game event is on a first-come, first served basis. Dates: April 21 (VIP Thursday a separate cost), April 22, 23, 24.

We need plenty of games to satisfy 250 gamers, so your help is appreciated and welcomed. Julius Rosenstein is running 7 games; so is Kevin Siembieda (+ panel talks and hanging out with you!); Glen Evans, Greg Diaczyk, John Klinkel, Mike Leonard, and other writers are also running games, and many of our usual fine G.M. volunteers are running games – James Brown, Ryan McDaniel, Mike Silva, etc., are running games. Game Event Info we need from each G.M.

  • RPG/World setting (Rifts®, Chaos Earth®, Palladium Fantasy®, Heroes Unlimited, After the Bomb®, Dead Reign®, Nightbane®, Splicers®, BTS, Ninjas & Superspies, etc.). Yes, you can run Robotech® or TMNT® based RPG games if you desire. Or even Savage Rifts®!
  • A brief, but dynamic description of the role-playing game.
  • Maximum Number of Players: 6-10 is typical, but run what YOU feel comfortable with running.
  • Running Time: 3-4 hours is typical, and best for these kinds of events, longer can be a problem.
  • What days you can run: VIP Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday?
  • When: Do you have a preferred time of day you want to run? If so, what is it? Specify preferences (10 AM, noon, 8:00 PM, what)?
    If we can NOT give you the preferred time slot, are you willing to run at a different time, earlier or later?
  • Multiple games: If you are running multiple times, is it the same game? If different games please provide all this information for EACH game you intend to run.
  • Please bring pre-rolled “player” character sheets: G.M.s, we strongly advise providing pre-rolled character sheets/descriptions for each player. Why waste time rolling up characters? Let’s game!
  • Minimum age of the players: Especially if the game has mature content or extreme violence. Please indicate if it is not suitable for players under the age of 17.

POH Safety Requirements
for Attendance at the 2022 Palladium Open House

Mask Wearing Required: Everyone participating in the Palladium Open House — including all attendees, exhibitors, Game Masters, event organizers, and event staff — will be required to wear a mask in all indoor spaces AT ALL TIMES, unless actively eating or drinking in “designated areas” or “outdoors.”

Masks must cover the nose and mouth and fit snugly against the sides without gaps. Masks may be manufactured or homemade and should consist of a solid piece of material WITHOUT slits, exhalation valves, or punctures. Wearing a mask helps to protect those around you. Only N95 level masks offer superior protection for yourself as well as those around you. See complete details in the online store description.

POH Waiver of Liability

The purchase of a Palladium Open House (POH) admission admits one person to all activities and exhibits at the POH during regularly scheduled hours of the Open House and events. In accepting a badge and in consideration for being admitted to the Palladium Open House, the holder consents to being recorded (by audio and/or visual means) for exhibition and exploitation by any means in all media, including without limitation the Internet, worldwide in perpetuity.

The badge holder releases Palladium Books Inc. from any liability for loss or damage to persons or property, infringement of any right, or any other claim or course of action of any kind; authorizes and permits Palladium Books, Inc. and its designees which includes but is not limited to all guests, exhibitors, and contractors to use and authorize the use of his/her name, voice, likeness and all reproductions thereof by any means and in all media now and hereafter known, including without limitation, the Internet, for all purposes worldwide in perpetuity; and agrees to comply with all the rules and regulations of the Event. The new Small Scale Resin Printed Military Spacecraft Series is a collection of 3D printable sci-fi space fighters designed by Michael Majestic in the spirit of 1980s anime, old school sci-fi aesthetics – arguably, some of the most striking and creatively bold work ever produced by Japanese animation studios. Mike has captured that boldness with clean lines and appealing visual designs. Additionally the digital 4K box art plus orthographic views of each fighter owes much to the way Japanese model and garage kit makers presented their releases in the 1980s and 90s (Tamiya aircraft, Dougram, Crusher Joe, Macross, etc.). Available now: One-of-a-kind book negatives. Negatives are always very popular items at the Palladium Open House and Gen Con. Truly unique, attractive, and fun.

Negatives are unique and attractive, one-of-a-kind (on rare occasions two-of-a-kind if a page or section of pages were replaced or a second edition was made) works of art that resemble woodcut art and are very dynamic conversation pieces. Before digital printing, pages of a book were laid out by hand on a board, and each page was photographed. The plastic film negatives were then “ganged” on a massive sheet of Mylar 16 pages per big sheet, and the printing plates were made from the negatives – everything white, printing black.

When our printer, McNaughton and Gunn was going to discard them, Palladium acquired many (not all) of the old negatives. I am only keeping a few books for myself and make majority of the rest available to you. I sign each negative in silver and each comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The negative comes on a white board inside a plastic magazine bag and looks fabulous framed! Fits in an 8×10 inch matt opening in a frame (each neg is roughly 8½ x 11 inches). But don’t miss the other collectibles as well.
