When people started dying en masse, few people knew what was going on. The news said it was some new virus or disease, but before anyone could really do anything, the billions-strong civilization that spanned the planet was almost completely wiped out with the exception of a few people who were immune. In humanity’s place, the virus changed animals and they gained human-level intelligence. As they create the world anew, the remaining humans struggle to keep the power they once had.
